The Team

So, the team. There’s Adrian, me, Mike, Mike, Melissa and Maddison (yes, I purposely put them together, they are kind of one person at times), Jay, and Sean. There are a lot of people involved in Velgaran, but these are the main ones.

Adrian:As I’ve mentioned, Adrian is my husband and the King of Everything(as he so aptly calls his blog, kingofeverything.tumblr.com) because he is. Well, as far as Velgaran and Wandering King are concerned at least. He is the creator and master of this universe. This whole thing started a million years ago (ok, like 10) with a story he wrote for a school project, which was about the character of Gathre who has now been changed many many times into the character he was playing when we met all those years ago. It was his dream, his idea, and it’s his passion and somewhat blind ambition that has gotten him/us to where we are today.

Me:I’m his wife and mother to our daughter. I don’t have a huge part in the development of content, though I do spend a lot of time listening to what they are spit-balling and throwing in my two cents, and quite often being exasperated when I pitch an idea, it gets vetoed, and 30 minutes later they’ve come to the idea on their own and now it’s the best thing in the world. I’ve learned to live with it…

Mike:We call this one “London Mike”. Why? He lives in London, Ontario, Canada, and there’s two Mike’s on the team and another friend named Mike (3 in all) so this is how we distinguish him. He is another friend that we also met in our online RPGing days. In fact, we both knew Mike before we knew each other. He has a lot of experience with all kinds of gaming, and Adrian basically uses him to throw stuff at and see what comes back. Pretty much all of their conversations have to do with some new idea or something that Adrian wants to talk to somebody about, and I am absolutely useless when it comes to talking game mechanics. Seriously…completely useless, as much as Adrian tries to explain things to me. My brain just shuts down. Good thing we have London Mike!

Mike: We will refer to this Mike as “Uncle Mike,” why you ask? Because he is Lilly’s favorite person in the world, besides Grammy and Papa and us. When something outside our apartment jostles the door, Lilly’s automatic response is to squeal in excitement because she thinks Uncle Mike is here. She evens requests for him to put her to bed if he’s here around that time. Adrian met Mike while working at Game Daze and Mike approached him with interest in working on Velgaran. Mike is many things to Wandering King, but most of all he is the head of our Art department, small though it may be. He is the drawing tablet behind our Velgaran and Wandering King logos, as well as icons he is creating from scratch for the Gods and Demi-Gods in the game. Not only that, Mike is the one who initially had the idea for the new game that he and Adrian are currently doing R&D on. (By the way it’s going to be pretty bad-ass). The guys have had a lot of R&D sessions that start before I get home from work, and go until we are ready for bed. Those are the nights I am happy to cook, clean, bathe the baby, and put her to bed because I enjoy listening to the development process, and I know those are the times that Adrian enjoys most. If all goes according to plan Mike will run our art department when Wandering King is actually a well-oiled game designing machine.

Melissa&Maddison: These two are the rest of our art team. Adrian also met them while he was working at Game Daze, because every wife loves to hear sentences that start “So I met these two girls at work today…” M&M are both extremely talented artists who are currently working on sketches of our different races. I honestly don’t remember who is working on what, only that what I’ve seen so far is fantastic. From what I have gathered they have known each other a very long time, which is evident when they bicker like an old married couple during our art meetings. I have only met them each a few times, but I like their art styles and like both of them as people as well; I think they’ll be good for the company as they are both extremely nerdy fan girls (believe me when I say that lovingly. It’s counted as a good thing in this house). Exactly the type of people we need!

Jay:Jay is a buddy that Adrian originally met when he realized he was stuck here for good with me, and he found that D&D group. Jay is actually the one who introduced Adrian to his current job, as Jay works there too. Jay is a member of the Velgaran test session that Adrian is currently running and has been helpful for a lot of the early and current development.

Sean: Adrian worked with Sean at Game Daze, which is how he met Mike also. Sean has helped a lot with much of the development of the game, largely with spells and general content development, though as of late has been M.I.A for more R&D sessions than Adrian would like…

So that’s our team. While it remains small for now, I think we’re pretty happy with who we have. Everyone is extremely enthusiastic about the project and everyone certainly seems to have a grasp on Adrian’s vision and dream for this company.
